Week 2 of our Man Asian Literary Prize 2011 longlist reviewing project (whew!) ….

Matt of A Novel Approach is off and running with:

Banana Yoshimoto‘s The lake (from Japan), which is high in my priority list as I’ve read Yoshimoto before and I’m particularly interested in Japanese literature.

And Fay of Read, Ramble with

Tarun J Tejpal‘s The valley of masks (from India), about which she has some reservations. Will others of us feel the same?

I hope, all being well, to post my first one next week, but don’t hold your breath. Life has a habit of getting in the way!

Sue, I’m really looking forward to reading your reviews. Whether reading the whole longlist is a realistic personal goal remains to be seen, but I am going to try. Still do not have a copy of Rebirth though.

Thanks muchly Fay. I know I won’t make the full longlist … just too much going on. I have a book to finish for reading group tomorrow night and then will get back to The folded earth which I started last week. I’d like to read rebirth too … it was in my top 3 to read but, well, I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

We can forgive delay in reviews. After all, you’ve been busy with surprise birthday presents 😀

I don’t know how you manage! Good luck with the epic reading. How I would love to forget everything and snuggle up with a long list of books but I realise it’s hard for all of us!

Thanks Catherine … I’m going to need all the luck – and a bit of spare time! – I can get (as if that’s going to happen over the next month or so, eh?)

I’m looking forward to reading the review for “Valley of Masks”. I’ve read “The Alchemy of Desire” by Tejpal and loved it.

Oh good Delia … Fay wasn’t so sure about this book. I wonder how similar or different it is to the one you’ve read?
