And the Jane Austen bloggernaut just keeps rolling …

Late last year I created a blog for my local Jane Austen group and in the blog roll listed some of the well-known (among Austen circles anyhow) Austen blogs. Since then I have come across many bloggers like myself – such as, say, So Many Books and The Captive Reader –  who like Jane Austen but don’t focus their blogs on her. Nothing unusual about all this you might say, but then things start to get a little weird, almost as weird as the appearance of books like Pride and prejudice and zombies, because I recently came across another Austen-lover’s blog, this one a foodie. It’s called Pride and Vegudice and belongs to a vegan-lovin’ Austen fan. Now what would mutton-stew-and-roast-pork-eating Jane Austen think of that?

In the immortal words of another nineteenth century writer, it just gets curiouser and curiouser!

Fallen over palm

Almost as curious as this fallen over palm

  1. I still have The Book of Nonsense, ed Roger Lancelyn Green pub 1951 which I recived in 1954! An abiding pleasure over many years. Have you read Diary of a Nobody by George and Weedon Grossmith? You might like it

  2. Absolutely Tom. And yes, I have read that, a long time ago. I gave it to my son a few years ago, but I’m not sure he read it. However, I plan to lift it from his shelves (as he hasn’t removed all his books yet) and reread it because I remember little other than enjoying it and that it was humorous.

  3. Pride and Vegudice, excellent! Since I’m a long time vegan that blogger is a woman after my own heart. And thanks for including me in your mentions 🙂

    • You’re welcome Stefanie – it’s a real pleasure knowing you in the blogosphere. Pride and vegudice is a rather nice blog – even though I’m not vegan. She has some lovely looking recipes there. And, if you’ve looked, you might have noticed her on-the-theme “sign up” message…

  4. I didn’t know you had a blog on Austen, interesting. And I think the vegan blog is interesting as well: I’m a vegetarian and an Austen lover so who knows, I might just find some good recipes on there.

  5. Hi Iris, the Vegudice blog looks great doesn’t it. I’m not vegan or vegetarian but I do like vegetarian/vegan food a lot. (Let’s face it, I like FOOD a lot!). The Austen blog is a group blog I set up last year for my local Jane Austen group. It’s working pretty well as a way in which we can report on our meetings, and share other Jane Austen “things” we do or come across.

    • Oh but, as you clearly know I do like a bit of nonsense! Must admit I haven’t read – and nor do I intend to – read Sense and sensibility and sea monsters – but those who have say it is much better written than P& P and zombies. Thanks Tom.
